The Technostalgic Escape Pod

South Bend artist Joel Shultz has a longtime fascination with the visual technology of the 1970s and 1980s, both real and imagined. His inspirations include the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Technodrome.

The idea for The Technostalgic Escape Pod began during the pandemic, when Joel started collecting old analog TVs and configuring them into a unique piece of visual art. With support from fellow local artists, he created an installation that brings the idea of ‘the medium is the message’ to life, inviting you to smile, think and share your insights.

The Doors

A door can be more than a functional object. It can be a symbol of passage, a threshold of opportunity, or a metaphor for choice, the future and home.

The Doors keeps everyone guessing: what’s next? Each door contains animations in a particular theme, with hundreds of images and animations to discover. To find out what is where, all must be opened.

This installation explores how the simple act of opening a door can change the way we see things. Spend a few moments looking through, or take a deep dive and let your imagination go.

The Infinity Temple

Imagine looking into forever while your perspective keeps changing. Created by the artists at Florentine Farms, The Infinity Temple invites you to see things in ways that are uniquely yours.

Standing seven feet tall, this 60-sided polyhedron, called a pentakis dodecahedron, features 5,000 LEDs along its inner walls. One-way mirrored glass panels surround a handcrafted hardwood frame, creating a dazzling light show.

Explore it from different positions. Each viewpoint invites new perspectives, sparks your imagination and offers another way to experience the light.

The Obelisk

Stand in front of a tower with more than 8,000 LEDs and take control of what they do. The Obelisk illuminates its surroundings with dazzling displays and carefully programmed visuals, framed by a mirrored exterior adorned with intricate sacred geometry.

During the day, its mirrored surface reflects the surrounding environment. At night, it becomes an interactive beacon of colorful, shifting light.

Take charge, experiment and surprise yourself and others as you make art that is all yours.

“We don’t create connection. We reveal the connection that already exists. The paintings become reminders. The conversations become memories.”
